This course is for advanced film or television students ONLY! The prerequisites are TV 52 or Cinema 11 at LACC with a grade of "C" or better. These courses can not be taken concurrently with Cinema 27. You will be asked for written proof of your prerequisites or a successful prerequisite challenge the first class meeting. Verbal proof is not good enough and seats will not be held. Willful destruction of any equipment or disruptive behavior such as disputes over computer time or with partners will result in the expulsion of the student from class and proper legal recourse may be instituted.
In the event of serious illness or other circumstances beyond a student's control a student must notify the instructor by email or telephone to keep from being dropped. A later meeting can determine if too much work or information has been missed to continue the class. According to LACC procedure a student can be excluded after 2 unexcused absences from this class. Because of limited space a student may be dropped if not present the first class or if absent from two successive classes. If a student stops attending a class it is the student's responsibility to officially drop the class in order not to receive a failing grade. It is the student's responsibility to sign the roll sheet for each class meeting - if you do not sign, you will be counted absent. Additionally students must sign the roll sheet at the beginning and ending of each class period to receive credit for lab work.
Consult the current Calendar for its information concerning Holidays, Drop Dates, Registration, etc. It is the students responsibility to adhere to those dates.
No food/drink is allowed in the computer lab. Students will work on a series of editing exercises already digitized into the lab computers. We have no provisions for digitizing individual student footage in this class, the lab will not be open outside of class time.
Students must also provide their own lightweight stereo headphones for EVERY class period (mini plug, also called 1/8"). No other media is required. Students must return all other materials at the end of each class period.

ASSIGNMENTS AND EXAMINATIONS:

1. EXAMS:

There will be "on paper" vocabulary, mid-term and cumulative final exams. The vocabulary exam is worth 25 points; the mid-term exam, 50 points; and the final exam, 100 points. You'll need a Scantron & #2 pencil for these exams. There will be only one opportunity for a makeup exam, held 30 minutes before the following class period. The Practical Exam is worth 25 points, will be done on the computer "one-on-one" with the teacher around the time of the midterm test.
- Vocabulary (Multi-Choice): Lecture & Vocabulary from Chapter 4
- Practical Exam (Individual "hands-on" the computer with the teacher)
- Mid-term (True/False & Multi-Choice): Lecture & Chapter 1 (pp 3 -18 : All), Chapter 2 (pp 21-40, Partial), Chapter 4 (pp 193 - 264: All), Chapter 5 (pp. 280-286 & 295-300 & 309 -314:Partial)
- Final (True/False & Multi-Choice): Lecture & Chapter 3 (pp 79 - 123, 136-177:Partial) & Chapter 7 (pp 353 - 374: All) : plus some material from the mid-term!

2. ATTITUDE and ATTENDANCE:

Attitude is considered a part of the student's overall grade. It is based on the student's attitude in class, his or her relationship toward other students and especially on exhibiting a professional attitude while sharing equipment with partners. Students are expected to sign the roll sheet at the beginning and end of each class period to receive full attendance & lab credit. Two points will be subtracted for each incident leaving early or arriving late.

3. LAB EXERCISES:

Student partners will edit a three projects during lab time and may edit additional material for extra credit (once the first three are finished). All footage will be supplied. This grade is a combination of actually turning in the assignments as well as the amount of time spent during lab by each partner.
