Stanley R. Alten’s Audio in Media, 5th edition. It should be available at the bookstore. If not it can also be purchased at the Op Amp Bookstore in Hollywood. Fred Ginsburg’s The Nagra Handbook is available in the book store. Reading and homework will be assigned from these books, many quiz and examination questions will be based on them. You must get these books. Together they can cost approximately $90.00.

2. Materials:
You will need a reel of 1/4" magnetic tape and three cassettes. These materials should cost less than $20 dollars. You will also need regular access to a portable cassette recorder with a microphone for ongoing sound projects throughout this course, to be announced. If you need to purchase a recorder they are available at Radio Shack for about $60.

3. Attendance:
Because of the costs associated with retaining delinquent students, school rules state that you may have one unexcused absence in this class before being subject to dismissal. In short, don’t miss class. If for some reason you must miss class, call me before it meets or you will risk being dismissed. Tardiness or leaving early will affect your grade also.

5. Class breaks will be one 7 minute break per hour. That is 28 minutes out of the five hours per week. We have a lot of material to cover during the semester because this class is the only sound class that you will have during your stay at LACC. We would normally need two semesters to cover what we have to cover in ONE semester.

4. Class starts promptly at 9:00am, there is no 10 minute after the hour grace period, because class will be dismissed 15 minutes early at 1:45pm.

6. Homework will consist of recording assignments along with a written report typed or hand printed. This class can be very informative and fun by your full cooperation.
